While it's fairly common knowledge that genetic factors play a role in the development of childhood asthma, this study explores further the possible influence of traffic on susceptible children living near main roads. Lifelong asthmatics will undoubtedly welcome this news, as many have been saying all along that traffic pollution is a frequent trigger of their attacks.
A good article that reviews the research that explores the relationships of genetics, roadside living and asthma. However I wish it offered more info about the implications or advice for parents.
There's a lot of similar content here but this article emphasizes an important point, i.e., that for those genetically predisposed to asthma, traffic can be the tipping point for actually becoming symptomatic.
